Our Pandemic Journey So Far

December 31, 2021 By Mommy Leave a Comment

It’s been a year of uncertainties, lockdowns and lots of adjusting for us. I have to say though, considering all that has happened and is still happening, our family has done okay. There is still a cha-cha dance going on with the world. One minute we’re moving forward, coping and living with this virus. The next, we’re put at a halt as surges happen and we’re back to another lockdown. We’re reminded once again that it’s so not over.

Thus our journey continues. What was once new has become the norm. We are constantly adapting. You barely remember the time before Covid. And I find myself making a space in the drawer for our face masks, together with other day to day items.

Our BFIAR (Before Five In A Row) Journey

December 6, 2020 By Mommy Leave a Comment

I learned about BFIAR or Before Five In A Row from other fellow moms who were already homeschooling their children. It was one of the first homeschooling curriculum that I was introduced to when I became interested in the idea of homeschooling. At that time with my eldest, Light, I found myself teaching her through our play and it came so naturally that I thought it could really be something that we do and take on as a family.

The Scariest Moment Of My Life

September 3, 2019 By Mommy Leave a Comment

Febrile seizure

I still choke up talking about it. Sure, I may laugh it off and it may seem like an overreaction now, but that night was the scariest moment of my life.

It started as an ordinary, normal, regular day. The afternoon was just the same, except out of the blue, Siris’ woke up from his nap with a fever. I mean he felt hot, but maybe it was just the weather. I mean he wasn’t hot that morning.

I remember hearing him laugh on his own for a few minutes on his bed, which I took as an opportunity to continue working. Then he started to cry or fuss. I just use fuss whenever the kids make “annoying” sounds. But of course, because I find him irresistible, I went to him and tried to console him/play with him. And yes, he was still hot (which I just brushed off as the usual, viral fever). I tried doing sponge bath on him and taking his temperature too, but he was just being difficult so I gave up.

I should’ve paid more attention and took it as a sign that something was not right. I should’ve… I should’ve…

Summer Fun | How To Introduce Sand To Your Toddler

April 22, 2019 By Mommy Leave a Comment

pico de loro summer vacation

Our family decided to have an early summer/Holyweek vacation. It was just perfect because the beaches were not too crowded, but they’re not completely isolated either. And although I never thought about it that much before with my older child, with Siris, going to the beach and dealing with him and sand, we had to sort of make preparations.

It wasn’t his first encounter with sand though. But it has been a while and he was so young before that he didn’t really get to play in the sand. He’s also different from Light. Light was more open to new things when she was little. Not much now, but when she was Siris’ age now, She had always been more adventurous. Siris, on the other hand, is a little reluctant to try new things.

Hong Kong Family Trip | Siris’ First Trip Abroad

PLUS My Son Got Traumatised At HongKong Disneyland!

Traveling to hongkong with toddlers

Yes, it’s true. I can’t decide yet if I should be worried about it but after getting back from our trip, every time he hears “who’s that?” or “look!”, he would squeal and run to me or his dad.

Okay, it is a little cute and funny, especially to his sister, who gets a laugh at “scaring” her little brother. My theory is that because we would always say to him whenever we saw a mascot at Disneyland “who’s that?” or “look, it’s Mickey”, and he wouldn’t like it when they got too close. So I think it kind of stuck on him, those words. And up until now as I write this post, he would still get “scared” when he hears it.

Siris Is Turning 1! Plus Unboxing Of The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9

August 3, 2018 By Mommy Leave a Comment

Siris Is turning 1How time flies! Siris is turning one!!! Ahhh! Soon I will have two toddlers. I wonder what exciting things are in store for our family when that time comes…

For Siris’ first birthday, we decided not to do a big party. I, because I’m the one who usually decides these things, decided that we just keep it small and simple for Siris’ first birthday, and just splurge on our upcoming trip this October. Because that trip would be for three celebrations already (Siris turning 1, Light turning 4 and my husband and I celebrating our 6th year anniversary). So I must remember simple and less for Siris haha. I don’t want to end up going beyond our budget again.

One thing I absolutely love about having more than one child is seeing my two kids play together, especially now that Siris is more expressive. He already understands a few things and definitely knows when his big sister is playing with him. [Read more…]

6th Month Milestone | First Solids

April 30, 2018 By Mommy Leave a Comment

siris first solid

We are finally here. The first half mark. It seems so far along looking back, but now that we’re here, it all seems too fast. It feels like I was asleep for the most part of your newborn stage. I barely remember anything haha. And now we’re here already halfway to your first year.

What Vacation?

January 8, 2018 By Mommy Leave a Comment

I think it might be for a while before my husband and I can have a real vacation. I am so counting the days when we’ll have a proper, restful trip. Having two little ones on vacation is just not a vacation. It’s just sleeping in another place haha.

Siris Has Arrived

October 30, 2017 By Mommy Leave a Comment

My name is Siris Ong

Welcome to the world Siris! It’s been a month and a half since our baby boy Siris was born. It has been challenging having a toddler and a newborn. My husband and I definitely did not think about how mentally and emotionally difficult it’s going to be.
