Our family decided to have an early summer/Holyweek vacation. It was just perfect because the beaches were not too crowded, but they’re not completely isolated either. And although I never thought about it that much before with my older child, with Siris, going to the beach and dealing with him and sand, we had to sort of make preparations.
It wasn’t his first encounter with sand though. But it has been a while and he was so young before that he didn’t really get to play in the sand. He’s also different from Light. Light was more open to new things when she was little. Not much now, but when she was Siris’ age now, She had always been more adventurous. Siris, on the other hand, is a little reluctant to try new things.
So here are some tips for you moms out there who are also having a little bit of a hard time letting your toddlers try new things, particularly, getting them out and about in the sand. Because, if they can’t have fun in the beach, it means we can’t have fun also, mommies! 😛
Tip # 1: Break it to them slowly
So I would totally just throw my child on the sand and “force” him to enjoy it. But my husband has more patience with the kids so when we visited the beach on our first day (watch video ☟☟), he just let Siris explore on his own and waited for him to get comfortable. Which, I think, helped a lot with him truly enjoying the sand, and us having a relaxing time at the beach.
Tip # 2: Bring toys
If dad won tip number 1, I got this second tip. I made sure to bring exciting beach toys for both Light and Siris to enjoy playing with in the sand. You don’t really have to buy expensive toys. A set of those affordable bucket-shovel-spade-molds beach toys is enough. I mean they loved it so much my husband and I got to lie down and soak under the sun.
Tip # 3: Let the other siblings help
Light got tip number 3. We encouraged her to share and play with her brother, and that helped Siris enjoy the sand a lot. At first he wouldn’t sit on the sand and would only sit on either me or his dad. But when he saw Light playing around, he hot more relaxed and soon had sand all over him.
Tip # 4: Lastly, just give him time
This trip was so chill that we had a lot of time to spare. We weren’t hastening to go and to try the other facilities. And for that, Siris had time to explore and get used to the texture of the sand. We gave him plenty of time to enjoy himself on the beach. 🙂
Anyway, we went to and stayed at Hamilo Coast Pico De Loro, Nasugbu Batangas for this early summer vacation. You can check out our whole stay, plus the room tour of their Pico Sands Hotel, in the video below. ☟☟☟☟
